Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page is praising the power of music. Speaking at Boston's Berklee College of Music commencement ceremony, Page passed the "joy and pleasure" of music-making on to the 900 graduates in attendance.
Berklee College of Music also bestowed an honorary doctorate of music degree on the two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Famer. In his short speech, Page explained that "music has so much power across so many avenues."
That power personally touched Page the night before when students took the stage to perform their renditions of his songs. He said he was "thrilled" with the honor and praised the performances for helping him to understand what his own contributions to music have meant to students.
Among the other honorees alongside Page at Berklee were R&B songwriter Valerie Simpson, jazz pianist Geri Allen and music educator Thara Memory.
