JOHN McENROE: Tennis Great Partied With the Rockers

John McEnroe dishes on his life in the fast lane in his newly published memoir. But Seriously follows the native New Yorker whose tennis success brought him into the same celebrity circle as rock 'n' roll's brightest lights.

A perfect example was advancing to the 1977 Wimbledon semi-finals and "the next thing I knew I was hanging out with Robert Plant and he was telling me what I did was cool."

His friendship with fellow tennis bad boy Vitas Gerulaitis landed him backstage with The Rolling Stones in New Jersey, hanging out with fellow party animals and newfound pals Ron Wood and Keith Richards. McEnroe admits, "I couldn't handle the world Keith and Ronnie lived in [though I did try]."

He's also tight with Chrissie Hynde. McEnroe says he ditched the Wimbledon Champions dinner after winning its men's singles crown in 1979 to instead party with The Pretenders.

Both of his marriages have been to high-profile women. He spent eight turbulent years with Tatum O'Neal before they divorced. Things have gone far better the last 20 years with Patty Smyth, the voice of the rock band Scandal. (New York Daily News)
