DEF LEPPARD: Joe Elliott Is Down 'n' Outz

Before Def Leppard hits the road for a 60-date tour with Journey in the spring and summer, Joe Elliott will work on an album with his side band, the Down 'n' Outz.

Speaking to Nikki Sixx on his Sixx Sense radio show, Elliott says that this one will consist of original material. The band's first two albums featured covers of songs by Mott the Hoople, Ian Hunter and related bands.

"It's not difficult to do," says Elliott. "It might not be any good, but it'll be in the spirit of it. So what we're doing is just channeling all the bands of that nature. So it's a little bit Mott, it's a lot Elton [John] and Queen and Humble Pie, a little bit [Bruce] Springsteen-ish even. It's just got a bit more, not Leppard, for a start, 'cause there's a lot of piano involved...areas that I've never really been before."

Elliott hopes to have it done before the Def Leppard tour starts and expects it to be released in 2019.
