Before Eddie Money passed away last Friday from complications following heart valve replacement surgery in July, he did something he'd wanted to do for 30 years -- have a church wedding with his wife of 30 years,Laurie.
Knowing that he had stage 4 cancer, they renewed their vowsin February of this year, and it was captured on his Real Money reality show.
Eddie said, “My faith and my love in Jesus Christ and how well he’s taken care of my family. I always wanted to get married in a church, and he’s up there looking at me: ‘Finally, you do what I want!’... It’s just a real thrill… I tell you, 30 years with my wife, the 30 best years of my life.”
When the minister asked if she took him in "sickness and in health,” Laurie paused and looked at Eddie who said, "Now, don’t start crying, please!”
Eddie and Laurie Money renew their wedding vows:
Though they were married for 30 years and had five children together, it wasn't always smooth sailing. The couple split up in 2004. At the time, Money said he gave credit to Laurie for being married to him for so long, adding that if the shoe were on the other foot, he would have left years earlier.
Eddie Money on his marriage to Laurie:
Laurie and the kids have established a cancer research fund in Eddie's memory. They say, “Finding a cure will help everyone battling cancer so please help fund research at USC Norris. Thank you all in advance for getting involved. Your support helps us feel that we can do something to help everyone facing cancer.”
