KINKS: Still Moving Forward

Brothers Dave and Ray Davies are moving forward on relaunching The Kinks.

Speaking to the Arizona Republic, Dave says, "It's going well. There’s a lot of stuff to go through that’s half-finished and needs work, plus some new ideas. So we’ll see."

He describes the music as "rock and roll. It’s the Kinks. It’s rock and roll. It’s all just very good. But it’s rock."

Asked about a timeline, he says, "I don’t want to preempt any ideas that Ray’s got about that. But there’s more to do."

Dave is also working on a new album with his son Russ. "We’ve got some really good ideas for this one. So I’m gonna be working on that at the same time. Especially when you get older, you want to keep trying to come up with new ideas and try new things. And that’s what we’ve been doing. I shouldn’t say it about my own son, but I think he’s a genius. He helps me write in a way I haven’t experienced before. He builds these musical landscapes and it’s lovely. He’s really inspiring to work with. When you trust someone, the whole creative field opens up in a different way. That’s why trust is important."

The Kinks released a 50th anniversary edition of Arthur (Or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire) Friday.
