On sale today (Friday), two weeks before the film hits theaters, the digital album hits the rewind button with ELO, Sweet, Sam Cooke, Fleetwood Mac, George Harrison, Glen Campbell, Looking Glass, Cat Stevens, Jay and the Americans, Cheap Trick and Silver.Following a strategy used in the original film, director James Gunn explains, "As most people know, Quill's mom made the first tape for a slightly younger boy, and she made the second tape for a slightly older boy. So, in many ways the songs reflect the story."
