U2: With a Little Help From Joe

U2's contribution to Record Store Day (Saturday) is a 12-inch vinyl picture disc of "Red Hill Mining Town," remixed by Steve Lillywhite from the track on The Joshua Tree.

Bono was inspired to write the song after reading Red Hill: A Mining Community by Tony Parker. The song was meant to be the album's second single but was replaced at the last minute by "I Still Haven't Found What I’m Looking For."

"The song is about the miner's strike and how people's marriages broke up. Men, 'cause they don't have work, and they bring that sadness home with them sort of thing."

Bono says that he tried to make himself sound like a legendary singer in recording the album.

"I always hoped that Joe Cocker would sing it and in my head I was trying to pretend to be Joe Cocker. But he has never sung it. He has plenty of songs of his own."

The single will be issued in two versions with different band photos by Anton Corbijn. The remix will also be included on the 30th anniversary deluxe and super deluxe editions of The Joshua Tree, which comes out June 2nd.
