GREGG ALLMAN: Cause of Death Was Liver Cancer

Gregg Allman died from liver cancer, says his manager Michael Lehman.

Lehman confirms to us that Gregg was diagnosed five years ago but chose to keep it quiet so he could continue performing.

Funeral arrangements are pending, but he will be buried next to his brother Duane Allman at Rose Hill Cemetery in Macon, Georgia. Macon is where the Allman Brothers Band got their start and where Duane died in a 1971 motorcycle accident.

Lehman also says Allman's last album, Southern Blood, is done and will be released in September.

And while it's quite obvious at this point, we can also confirm that the stories of Gregg -- which were vehemently denied in April -- being in hospice care were indeed true.

Gregg, who was 69, is the fourth fatality from the original six-piece Allman Brothers: Duane Allman, Berry Oakley and, earlier this year, Butch Trucks.

Allmans guitarist Dickey Betts issued a statement saying, "This is very, very sad news. I'm glad we got to talk recently. This is very sad." And the band's surviving drummer Jai Johanny Johanson, better known as Jaimoe, posted on Facebook, "What a sad day for us all. Thank you for all your kind messages. Jaimoe is aware of them."
