Part of a sad chapter in the life of Gregg Allman was closed Monday when a jury in Georgia awarded more than $11.2 million to the family of Sarah Jones, the crew member killed in 2014 on the set of the film about his life.
She was struck by a CSX freight train on a railroad bridge south of Savannah during the filming of Midnight Rider, which was based on Allman's autobiography.
CSX, which owns the tracks, is responsible for $3.9 million of the liability. The company is appealing the verdict, claiming producers failed to secure permits to use the tracks for filming.
Director Randall Miller, who was sentenced to two years in jail in 2015, has already settled with the family.
The film was never finished.
