GEORGE THOROGOOD: He Really Is Lonesome

George Thorogood releases his first solo album today (Friday).

Party of One features him without The Destroyers doing songs by many of his musical heroes.

George Thorogood on choosing songs for his new album, Party of One:

"I was trying to choose a song from every artist that may have influenced me along the way. One was Brian Jones, played with The Rolling Stones. We did a Johnny Cash tune, a Hank Williams tune. That was not as easy as you think because then you gotta pick the right one. Some of them I could play it but I couldn't sing it. Some of them I could sing 'em, but I couldn't play it. And remember, I don't have a sax player with me or a bass player or a drummer or anything to help me out there. So I was out there on a rope with no net so to speak. So it took a couple of years. Took about a year and a half."

He also recorded a new version of his cover of John Lee Hooker's “One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer.”

Thorogood is on tour this weekend with shows in Indianapolis tonight (Friday), Washington, Missouri on Saturday and Bloomington, Illinois on Sunday.
