Gregg Allman is smiling down on us as his last album, Southern Blood, has debuted at number-11 on the Billboard 200.
It has also landed on three other Billboard charts:
- Number-two on Americana/Folk Albums
- Number-three on Rock Albums
- Number-five on Top Current Albums
Available in numerous configurations, Southern Blood was recorded while Gregg knew he was dying of liver cancer, and was not compiled as a posthumous release.
When he decided to make the album, his manager Michael Lehman says he insisted on two things.
"One, working his band and not working with a studio band as he did on [his last album] Low Country Blues. And two, making that record at Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals [Alabama]."
Gregg wanted to record at Muscle Shoals because that's where his late brother Duaneworked as a session musician.
