GRATEFUL DEAD: New Book of the Dead

What may be the definitive photo book aimed at Deadheads was published Monday.

Eyes of the World: Grateful Dead Photography 1965–1995 presents the band as shot by a wide range of top photographers in a hardcover, coffee table book. To be exact, the 271-page book features 220 images captured by 61 photographers, including such well known names as Annie Leibovitz, Jim Marshall, Baron Wolman and Jay Blakesberg, who co-edited it with former Relix magazine editor-in-chief Josh Baron.

Graham Nash, who knows lots about both music and photography, wrote the forward, while Phil Lesh has said it "really captures the spirit of the Grateful Dead." The editors will be signing copies at Morrison Hotel Gallery in New York this Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. and the evening of October 30th at Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael, California, with more events to be announced soon.

  • It's not cheap, but neither was following The Dead around the country.
