Cops Waive (Minor) Tickets for Toys

It's only November, but a police department in Pennsylvania has already gotten into the season of giving by giving motorists a break.

The St. Marys City Police Department has begun its Cops for Kids Program, where officers waive tickets for minor traffic offenses in exchange for donated toys. During the seasonal program, officers hand out flyers instead of tickets. The flyers encourage residents to drop off a donated toy at the police station and avoid having to pay the fine.

The flyer reads, "In the spirit of the holidays, we are waiving the issuance of a citation, in hopes that you will drop off an unwrapped toy to our Police Department. All toys will go to benefit Project Gifts for Elk County. On behalf of the Saint Marys City Police Department, have safe and happy holidays!" The department will also accept donations from residents who have not been stopped for a traffic offense. (The Courier Express)
