AC/DC: Sales in Black

AC/DC are already one of the all-time top-selling acts, and as is often the case when artists pass, the recent death of the band's founder and rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young has helped their bottom line.

Since his death on November 18th from complications associated with dementia, the band landed has six entries on Billboard's Hot Rock Songs chart.

"Thunderstruck" enters at number-six thanks to 6000 downloads and 4.1 million U.S. streams. Also seeing a boost in sales were:

  • "Back in Black" - number-11 (3000 downloads sold; 3.1 million U.S. streams)
  • "You Shook Me All Night Long" - 15 (3000 sold; 2.5 million streams)
  • "Highway to Hell" - 18 (3000 sold; 2.5 million streams)
  • "T.N.T." - 23 (2000 sold; 1.6 million streams)
  • "Hells Bells" - 24 (2000 sold; 1.5 million streams)

Also getting a boost were "It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock 'n' Roll)" and "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap."

On the album side, sales of Back in Black rose 85 percent -- with 3000 from pure album sales. As a result it is back on the Billboard 200 at number-130.

The funeral for Malcolm was held yesterday (Tuesday) in Sydney, Australia.
