Gregg Allman, who passed away from liver cancer on May 27th of this year, would have been 70 today (Friday).
In Macon, Georgia, where he is buried, Mayor Robert Reichert has declared December 8th, 2017 as Gregg Allman Day. In the proclamation, Reichert writes, "I encourage all citizens to honor his memory and place in our community by supporting arts education and attending concerts by local musicians, both established and up and coming.”
Allman was also posthumously honored with the key to the city, which his son Devondonated to The Big House Museum, the onetime home of The Allman Brothers, which now displays band memorabilia.
The Big House is also taking part in the celebration with a reduced admission and a display of some items from Gregg’s career, including the original painting for the cover of his debut album, 1973's Laid Back.
