  • Feb. 29th: The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's is named Best Album and The Fifth Dimension's "Up Up and Away" wins Record of the Year at the Grammys. Bobbie Gentry earns Best New Artist over The Fifth Dimension and Jefferson Airplane. (The Doors weren't nominated).
  • May 5th: Buffalo Springfield announce they have broken up.
  • May 14th: The day they announce the formation of Apple Records, John Lennon and Paul McCartney appear on The Tonight Show -- with Joe Garagiola filling in for Johnny Carson.
  • Aug. 26th: The Beatles release "Hey Jude."
  • Sep. 22nd: The Who begin recording Tommy in London.
  • Oct. 12th: John Sebastian quits The Lovin' Spoonful.
  • Nov. 8th: Cynthia Lennon is granted a divorce from John.
  • Nov. 22nd: The Beatles release The White Album in the UK. It goes on sale in the U.S. three days later.
