Steppenwolf joins the parade of bands marking their 50th anniversary in 2018. The John Kay-fronted group will release the three-CD compilation Steppenwolf at 50 on March 16th.
Packing 41 tracks, the three-disc set includes such classics as "Born to Be Wild," "Rock Me" and "Magic Carpet Ride" as well as the previously unreleased song "Compared to What." The box's third disc consists of live recordings from the '90s.
Steppenwolf's music struck a true counter-culture chord in the '60s, when songs "The Pusher" and "Born To Be Wild" were featured in the Dennis Hopper/Peter Fonda film Easy Rider. Steppenwolf at 50 was personally overseen by John Kay and his longtime manager Ron Rainey.
Pre-orders will begin Friday at the band's website.
Steppenwolf's 2018 touring schedule begins Friday in Fort Pierce, Florida.
