Iconic recordings such as Fleetwood Mac's Rumours album, The Temptations "My Girl" and Bill Haley and the Comets' "Rock Around the Clock" headline this year's additions to the Library of Congress's National Recording Registry.
Joining them among the 25 selections are Kenny Loggins's "Footloose," The Sound of Music soundtrack, Tony Bennett’s "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" and Miami Sound Machine’s "Rhythm Is Gonna Get You."
The list also veers outside pop and rock, with entries such as Standing Rock Preservation Recordings (from 1928), Merle Travis's 1946 album Folk Songs of the Hills and Arlo Guthrie's "Alice's Restaurant Massacree." There's also An Evening with Groucho, Marx's 1972 concert at Carnegie Hall in New York.

This year's additions bring the National Recording Registry to an even 500 historic titles. All will be preserved for the benefit of future generations.
