Eagles guitarist Bernie Leadon wrote the music for "Witchy Woman," then gave the song to drummer Don Henley, who put lyrics to what would become his only lead vocal on on the band's debut album. Leadon recalls that he and Henley never discussed who the "witchy woman" was, or what inspired the words.
