Jimmy Page Celebrates Fender's 50th (watch)

Jimmy Page will always be known for playing a Gibson Les Paul, but there was a time when it was a 1959 Fender Telecaster. In celebration of the band's 50th anniversary, Page has teamed with Fender to re-create that guitar.

Jeff Beck gave him the guitar to thank him for recommending him for The Yardbirds, prior to Page's joining the band.

Over the years Page customized the guitar both in and out. In 1967 he put mirrors on it, before completely stripping and repainting it himself, hand-painting a mystical dragon on the body.

He says, "This guitar is so special and has so much history, so I approached Fender to see if they'd be interested in re-creating it. They really got it 110 percent right, or 150 percent right. It's so absolutely as it is, as it should be, and as it was."

Both versions -- with the mirrors and the dragon artwork -- will be available in limited editions next year.
