Police Chief Cardboard Shoplifting Reminder Is Stolen

Normally, shoplifting stories end with a cop apprehending a crook -- but this one starts with a thief stealing a cop!

Stores around Green Bay, Wisconsin have been displaying lifesize cardboard cutouts of police chief Andrew Smith warning that shoplifting is a serious crime. But at least one person took that as a challenge and walked off with one of the six-foot displays, which was located near the entrance of a Kwik Trip store.

The official police report notes that “No demands have been received from the kidnappers at this point."  The chief's stand-up has not been recovered. (Green Bay Press-Gazette)
