NEW YORK CITY: Blue Light Special

New Yorkers thought the world was coming to an end Thursday night when the skies above the city were lit up in a mysterious bright blue light.

It turns out it wasn't an alien invasion or a scene from Ghostbusters. A transformer explosion at a Con Edison electrical plant in Queens caused an eerie blue glow in the sky over the city which had left everyone puzzled. Social media was in a frenzy with everyone speculating and joking about what it could be.

Luckily there were no injuries reported from the fire, but power was knocked out to some areas, including LaGuardia Airport, which led to a brief ground stop. (NBC New York)
