America’s Navy is returning to Mobile in 2019, as one of 14 cities selected to host a Navy Week, one of the Navy’s signature outreach programs.
Mobile Navy Week is scheduled for February 27 – March 5, 2019, coincident with a port visit and the city’s Mardi Gras celebration, and is designed to give area residents an opportunity to learn about the Navy, its people and its importance to national security and prosperity. The Navy plans to include the following elements in the week-long celebration:
- Senior Navy Leadership
- USS Constitution Sailors
- Navy Divers and Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams
- Navy Office of Small Business Programs Workshop
- Navy Band musical performances
- Navy Oceanographic/Meteorology teams
- Navy History and Heritage Command
- Port visit from a U.S. Navy vessel/ship tours
- Namesake Sailors from USS Alabama (SSBN 731)
- Navy simulator(s) and other interactive displays
- Visits to area schools
- Parade participation
- Community service projects and events with local organizations
- Visits with local veterans
