World War II veteran Clarence Smoyer re-lived some old memories when he was given the chance to ride in the same kind of tank he operated during the war.
95-year-old Clarence is actually still remembered as the “Hero of Cologne” for the role he played in a famous tank duel in Cologne, Germany.
The story of that duel is being told in the new book Spearhead, which describes his time in the war and men he served with.
And, the book being released was made even more special for Clarence with the special trip he was able to take in that tank – and all the people who showed up to cheer for him as he rumbled down the street. (East Texas Matters)
