For the second time in four months, after delays, there's a new multi-discTom Petty collection.

Released today (Friday),The Best of Everything is the first career-spanning set of his hits with The Heartbreakers, his solo work andtracks by Mudcrutch. The 38-track set includes two previously unreleased tracks, one of them a version of the title track which includes a never-heard verse to the song recorded for the 1985 Southern Accents album.

The Best of Everything is available as a two-disc CD, vinyl and digitally and comes with an essay by music journalist-turned-movie-director Cameron Crowe.

Tom Petty on why his music has endured:

"We've really tried to avoid show business as much as possible. We're just musicians really. That's what it's based on, and I would really be bored if it was based on anything else. As time goes by, what was really good seems to stay in some way. It doesn't really go away. I mean even the great blues and jazz, which became, you know, really small pockets of the music business, it's still respected and has endured. People are gonna hang onto the good stuff I think."
