Bill introduced in Alabama senate to ban holding cell phone while driving

Tuesday, a ban on using your cell phone behind the wheel could be possible.

State Senator J.T. Waggoner has told our sister station the hands-free driving bill will probably be on the calendar, in the senate today.

Alabama law currently bans texting while driving, but does not ban holding a phone while driving.

This law would be similar to the law the state of Georgia already has in place.

The first violation of the law is a $50 fine, the next offense is double that, and the third, and each offence following, would cost $150.

Each violation will also add points to your license.
