Nuggets: Thin Lizzy, Jeff Beck, Mitch Ryder and more

Jeff Beck, who will play shows with Eric Clapton and Rod Stewart in September, has announced five of his own. He’ll be in Kansas City, Missouri on September 17th; Tulsa, Oklahoma on the 18th; Austin, Texas on the 21st; San Antonio on the 22nd; and Phoenix on the 24th. His appearance with Clapton at theCrossroads Guitar Festivalis September 20th in Dallas, and he’ll play the Hollywood Bowl with Stewart on September 27th.

Heart has added a fall leg to their tour – September 26th in Wantagh, New York through October 13th in St. Paul, Minnesota. The tour starts July 9th in Maryland Heights, Missouri.

David Crosby cut short his show in Beverly, Massachusetts on Saturday and canceled Sunday’s tour closer in Bar Harbor, Maine due to illness. He hopes to reschedule both. He’ll be back on the road August 11th in New York City.

Rick Wakeman is back on a diet. The prog-rock keyboardist, who is prone to making fun of himself, says, “I'm aiming to be able to touch my toes by Christmas. At the moment, I am able to touch my knees, albeit one at a time ... but it's a start, and I am a bit dizzy when doing it.”

Philomena Lynott, the mother of Thin Lizzy frontman Phil Lynott, was laid to rest beside him today (Monday) in Dublin. During the funeral, the priest joked that Phil would be singing “Guess who just got back today” -- the first line of “The Boys Are Back in Town” -- when they meet in heaven.U2 sent flowers, as did many others. Philomena was 88 and died from cancer.

Mitch Ryder has teamed up with fellow Michigander and former Stooges guitarist James Williamson on a single and videoremake of Ryder’s 1966 Detroit Wheels hit “Devil With a Blue Dress On” / ”Good Golly Miss Molly.”
