The question over whether Rolling Stones founding guitarist Brian Jones drowned or was murdered 50 years ago this month is the subject of a new Netflix documentary.
Who Killed Christopher Robin?is based on a 1994 book by investigative journalist Terry Rawlings, titled in reference to Brian's Cotchford Farm having once been the home of Winnie the Pooh author AA Milne. The doc contains a 2009 interview with Brian's road manager,Tom Keylock, who says Brian was out of his mind on drugs the night he was found floating his in pool.
He says, “Very strong hash cakes were made. They were all stoned and they didn’t know what day it was.”
Keylock says his brother,Frank Keylock– a senior police officer – told him that the circumstances of Jones' death were covered up because of mistakes by local police.
“I think the police wanted to make a manslaughter charge, but they were told to forget it. The only one who could possibly have been charged was [contractor] Frank Thorogood, because he was the only one in the pool. But the police said ‘Just forget it’. The orders came from the very top not to pursue it anymore, and it never was pursued after that.”
It's been long believed that Thorogood killed Jones in a dispute over money.
Jones was found dead on July 3rd, 1969, a few weeks after being fired from the Stones. He was 27.
