WOODSTOCK 50: Officially Off

It looks likeWoodstock 50 is officially done.

Citing multiple sources,Varietyreports that the troubled festival's organizers notified vendors and stakeholders this morning (Wednesday) that they'd pulled the plug, and they released a statement this afternoon. This comes the day after another headliner, Miley Cyrus, joined the list of artists who had already pulled out -- including Jay-Z, Dead and CompanyThe Raconteurs and The Lumineers, plus original 1969 performers Santana, John Fogerty,John Sebastian and Country Joe McDonald.

The festival was going to take place as a free event for charity at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland August 16th through 18th. Varietyreports that a revised plan would have left it as a one-day show on either the 16th on 18th.The Smashing Pumpkins are scheduled at the venue on the 17th.

The statement from Michael Lang says, "We are saddened that a series of unforeseen setbacks has made it impossible to put on the festival we imagined with the great line-up we had booked and the social engagement we were anticipating."

Woodstock 50 was first planned for Watkins Glen, New York, then Vernon, New York, but both towns ultimately denied permits for the event.
