Don McLean on AXS, Aerosmith, Rush and more Nuggets

Don McLean will appear October 3rd on the AXS-TV series Mixtape. The singer-songwriter recalls the genius of Buddy Holly and performs “American Pie."Foreigner,Rick Springfield, Don Felder, Todd Rundgren, Kevin Cronin of REO Speedwagon and Robby Krieger of The Doors are also booked for the upcoming season.

Aerosmith drummer Joey Kramer sat out a second show Saturday at MGM National Harbor in Maryland after twisting his ankle during a rehearsal. His drum tech John Douglas filled in. Bur Kramer was at the show and came out for a bow at the end of the night. Aerosmith will play the third of three shows there Tuesday.

Ringo Starr and His All-Starr Band were joined by Emmylou Harris Thursday at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on “With a Little Help From My Friends.”

R.E.M. bassist Mike Mills joined Hootie and the Blowfish Saturday night at Madison Square Garden in New York for a pair of R.E.M. songs – “Losing My Religion” and “(Don’t Go Back to) Rockville,” which he sang. Prior to bringing Mills on stage,Darius Rucker said R.E.M. was a huge influence on Hootie.

So much for Neil Young's promise of not booking any more shows this year. Young and Promise of the Real have added a September 19th date in Indianapolis as a warm-up for their Farm Aid set on the 21st in Alpine Valley, Wisconsin.

Mark Knopfler plays guitar on "The Hard Way," the first single from Pieta Brown's new album, Freeway, which comes out September 20th. Knopfler also played guitar on Brown's 2017 album,Postcards.

San Francisco's Haight Ashbury Music Center will soon close. It’s been a fixture in the city since the early ’70s and known for its Rickenbacker guitars. The store's customers have included Huey Lewis,Carlos Santana and Jerry Garcia.

Rush have released a preview of their new movie,Cinema Strangiato 2019, which will be in theaters for one night -- August 21st. The clip is of "Distant Early Warning."
