Back in June we reported that Tom Petty's childhood home in Gainesville, Florida was in the process of being sold and could become a tourist destination.
It turns out the new owner of the 12-hundred square foot home, built in 1952, is his first wife,Jane Benyo Petty.
She plunked down $175,000 for the home, tellingThe Gainesville Sun, “When I went to the house, it had changed and it didn’t look the same. But I thought we should have it in the family.” She adds that she plans to move back to Gainesville, but will not turn the home into a museum.
The only thing original from Petty's time there is the pink tile in the bathroom.
Tom and Jane were married from 1974 until 1996. Their two daughters,Adria and Anna Kim, are embroiled in a lawsuit with their dad's second wife and widow,Dana. They claim his estate has been mismanaged and that Dana cost Petty Unlimited, the company the three of them formed after his death, more than $5 million.
Petty died in 2017 from an accidental drug overdose. He was 66.
