ROD STEWART: Every Train Tells a Story

Rod Stewart and his love of model railroading are featured in the December issue of Railway Modeller magazine.

He gave the periodical access to his Los Angeles home to take pictures of his 124-by-23-foot layout, which he has been working on for 23 years.

Stewart saysin an interview with BBC Radio 2, "I would say 90 percent of it I built myself, The only thing I wasn't very good at and still am not is the electrical, so I had someone else do that... A lot of people laugh at it being a silly hobby, but it's a wonderful hobby."

Although the layout is home in L.A., Stewart did a lot of work on it while on tour.

Rod Stewart says he used to work on his model railroad while on tour:

He goes onto say, "When I take on something creative like this, I have to give it 110 percent. For me it's addictive. I started, so I just had to finish. I'm lucky I had the room. If I'd have realized at the start it would have taken so long, I'd have probably said, 'No! No! Nah!'"

In other Stewart news, he'll perform at a "secret dinner party" organized by his wife Penny Lancaster in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust.
