Mask Ordinance Goes Before Mobile City Council Tuesday

A mask ordinance is on the table for the Mobile City Council Tuesday.

Mayor Sandy Stimpson said he's asked the Council to approve an order requiring the wearing of face masks in public places, to control the spread of the Coronavirus. On Twitter, the Mayor said, "There is no question that masks can prevent the spread of COVID-19. The virus is actively spreading in our community and remains a serious threat to public health."

The Mayor also says, "We're serious about enforcement. As proposed, the ordinance carries a fine of $50 for the first offense and $100 for second and subsequent offenses."

This is something that has been brought up before, according to Councilmember Fred Richardson, but at that time, the Mayor was not in favor of an ordinance. (See below)
