Alabama Governor Kay Ivey is extending her Safer At Home order through July 31st; it had been due to end on July 3rd.
The Governor says everyone needs to incorporate Coronavirus precautions into your daily routine-- that includes maintaining 6 foot social distancing and you are strongly encouraged to wear face masks in public.
Governor Ivey says personal responsibility means it's EVERYONE's responsibility. She says there has been speculation that the spike in COVID-19 cases is due to Memorial Day gatherings. She says, "if true, that's alarming and we have to do better" for the 4th of July.
Over 37,000 people in Alabama have contracted the virus and over 800 have died. State Health Officer Dr. Scott Harris says 28% of those cases have been reported in the past two weeks, and while there has been more testing in Alabama, the rate of positive tests has increased to almost 11%.
He says what you do can affect other people, in serious ways, and he asked people to please do your best to take care of others.
