An eight-year-old girl in Quincy, Massachusetts is finally back at school after missing 15 months to undergo cancer treatment, and boy did the school miss her.

Bridget Kelley was looking forward to a quiet return to Merrymount Elementary School, but the community had other ideas.

As Bridgett arrived at school right after New Year's, she was greeted by a crowd of hundreds of students, teachers, parents and police officers cheering for her and holding up "welcome back" signs. Her mother, Megan Kelley (not the NBC anchor) said, "When we saw all the people we thought she could be overwhelmed and embarrassed. But she raised her arms like 'Victory!' and she soaked it in. She totally went with it, and that made it that much more exciting."

She added that Bridget "felt so special and so welcomed after such a long and hard road." (Today.com)
