We're celebrating what would have been Bob Marley's 72nd birthday yesterday (Monday), and with that in mind the official Marley Twitter account has reminded us that a historic interview with him was recently posted on YouTube.
It's Marley's earliest known recorded one-on-one, reportedly the only one he did before he and The Wailers signed with Island Records. Over an hour long, it was conducted by Canadian ethno-musicologist Bob Witmer at the Tuff Gong Record Shop in Kingston, Jamaica in 1972, as part of his doctoral research project on the Jamaican music industry.
The sound quality of the interview, which was recorded on cassette, ranges from poor to indecipherable, but its a nice addition to the record of one of the 20th century's greatest musical figures.
