U2: Back to the Studio

U2 are headed back to the recording studio.

The news comes via AtU2.com, which cites the cover story in the upcoming April issue of the British magazine Mojo. The site says they'll re-cut some of Songs of Experience with longtime producer Steve Lillywhite live at Electric Lady Studios in New York next month. Lillywhite produced their first three albums and has worked with them intermittently since, most recently on 2009's No Line on the Horizon.

The article also suggests that Bono and The Edge may be reworking some lyrics and, according to The Edge, they may "even write a new song or two." Bassist Adam Clayton explains they need to make the mix clearer -- "We don't want a soup. We want a consummé" -- and to "be a little bit more inventive sonically." He adds that they're about 85 percent done and plan to lose three or four songs they've already recorded to get down to 12 songs for the album.
