Jefferson Starship guitarist Craig Chaquico has been reunited with a favorite guitar lost during a fiery riot at a 1978 concert in Germany.
The 1959 Les Paul Sunburst guitar, which Craig played on the million-selling albums Spitfire and Earth, was recently located and verified from photos and the serial number. A confidential agreement between the previous owner and Chaquico enabled him to regain custody of the guitar.
Based on comparable guitars played by others, Chaquico's Les Paul could be worth $2 million.
Almost all of the bands’ instruments and gear went missing during the riot in Lorelei, Germany after the Starship canceled its scheduled show at the last minute when vocalist Grace Slick took ill. When ticket-holders got violent, the band quickly skipped the venue. Nearly 40 years later, most of the band's other instruments remain missing.
