U2 released its mega-breakthrough album 30 years ago today (Thursday) -- March 9th, 1987.
The Joshua Tree was the band's fifth studio album, anchored by such songs as "Where the Streets Have No Name," "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For," "With or Without You" and "Bullet the Blue Sky." It has sold over 10-million copies in the U.S. and 25-million worldwide.
The Joshua Tree topped numerous album charts around the world. It won Grammys for Album of the Year and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal in 1988. A remastered edition was released in 2007 to commemorate its 20th anniversary, and in 2014 it was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Recording Registry.
The band will recognize today's anniversary with a Facebook Live chat. If you have a question, post it now on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+ or Tumblr. Use the hashtags #AskU2 and #U2TheJoshuaTree2017. Then tune in at 3 pm ET on U2’s Facebook page to see the band answer your questions live from the studio.
The Joshua Tree 30th anniversary tour starts on May 12th in Vancouver, Canada.
