Feeding the Gulf Coast along with the Community Foundation of South Alabama to Provide Fresh Produce and Dry Goods to Families During COVID-19 Pandemic
Mobile, Ala. – Feeding the Gulf Coast and the Community Foundation of South Alabama will host a food distribution on Wednesday, May 27, 2020, in partnership with Mt. Hebron Church Ministries. The COVID-19 pandemic is creating an added strain on Gulf Coast families struggling with food insecurity and access to healthy foods. Over 500 families will receive a mixture of fresh produce and dry goods thanks to donations provided by the Community Foundation of South Alabama. The distribution will operate in a drive-through style to minimize contact for both clients and workers. This is the first of several distributions provided thanks to The Community Foundation of South Alabama’s Mobile Area Disaster Relief Fund that will be held over the summer months.
“The Foundation is committed to aiding the Mobile community during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Community Foundation of South Alabama President and CEO Rebecca Byrne in a statement. “We are extremely thankful to the businesses and individuals who donated to this fund, and we’re confident that the awarded organizations will do their part to provide critical needs to those in our community who’ve been affected by COVID-19.”
As families are faced with an increased need for food due to COVID-19 impacts, the "Find Help" feature available at www.feedingthegulfcoast.org, is the best source of information for families and individuals seeking assistance. Individuals can also call (888) 704-FOOD. During this time of uncertainty and crisis, Feeding the Gulf Coast remains dedicated to serving the community. Working with community partners, the food bank will continue to be an organization of hope and support for families facing hunger.
