In 1983 U2 released their 3rd album "War"!
The album featured the songs "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and "New Year's Day", which made a political splash for the band, unlike their previous albums "Boy" and "October". War focused on warfare, and the emotional after-effects, as the tone was harsher than their previous work.
The album was an immediate hit, knocking Michael Jackson's "Thriller" from the top of the UK charts to become U2's first album certified gold. War cemented U2 as one of the biggest bands in the world, while The War Tour blazed through 1983. War is generally one of U2's biggest albums and considered one of the greatest albums of all time.
